July 2024 Newsletter
Hello, and a joyous July to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter.
Today's issue is about self-care and making time for it, or not.
Enjoy!
Self-Care Takes Too Much Time!
|
Most of us feel like there aren't enough hours in the day for what's necessary, let alone anything extra. Weekends or unexpected "free time"
quickly fill up with chores we haven't been able to get to in our normally busy life, or hijacked by lengthy surprise interruptions. Just fitting in some necessary self-care like a haircut
can be a major calendar-juggling exercise for those who already have a full schedule.
|
Self-care can be thought of as pampering ourselves, like a day at the spa, or a treat of a "mental health day" off from work, or a calorie-rich sweet dessert when we're usually quite strict about our nutritious clean diet.
Then we have to justify how much we deserve this indulgence, or have earned it, since our normal routine has us feeling so deprived. What if self-care is merely sensible maintenance, such as getting enough sleep or brushing our teeth, just like we
maintain our car with regular oil changes and checking the tire pressure?
|
When we're children, our parents or caregivers make sure we're fed healthy food and kept clean and safe. Our teachers guide us to receive the education we'll need to grow into functioning productive adults. Then it's our turn to take care of ourselves, or we suffer the
consequences if we don't. I'm not the first vision teacher to point out that taking care of your precious eyesight is an essential part of self-care in general. Eating plenty of multi-colored fruits and vegetables, staying well-hydrated, and getting regular physical activity
will help your whole body function better, not only your visual system.
|
If people say they don't have time to eat right or to do any exercise, I wonder where their time is going, and what their true priorities are. Life is often too busy and full, but if we don't make the time for what we need, it's unlikely anyone else will. One of my own most
unhelpful habits is rushing, doing "one more thing" before permitting myself to take a break from activity. This is often much better for others who want my time than it is for me. Yes, I want to be productive and helpful, and I also don't want to fry my energy circuits with overdoing.
|
My physical self-care, specifically eating well, exercising regularly, and getting enough good quality sleep, has never been much of a problem. However it's only in the past few years that I've realized how essential emotional self-care is, and how visual self-care is closely tied to that. If I'm restless and agitated, my
palming
sessions won't be very relaxing, and I may even lose my balance when I do the
Long Swing,
which will completely defeat the purpose of this gentle movement.
|
Whatever healthy relaxing or energizing practices you do for your body or brain will also help your vision. Meditation comes to mind, as does walking outside and getting away from screens. Even if you're stuck in front of a screen for long periods of time, say for work, please take frequent breaks to look away, ideally out the window, and make sure you're
still blinking and breathing. (Blink rate typically slows, and breathing gets more shallow, when in front of a screen.) You don't need extra time to take care of your eyes when you incorporate good habits into the lifestyle you already have. You can be well and see well -- it only takes a bit of focus.

Upcoming EFT one-day intensive
My skilled insightful EFT teacher Dr. Carol Look is offering a one-day intensive later this month, Choose Your Best Belief. I can't recommend Carol's work highly enough.
Your beliefs may be holding you back without you realizing it. Say you believe "No one in my family is good with ____". What if that's not true for you? We've had one activation
call in June to prepare us, which you'll have access to when you register for the day-long session coming up in less than 2 weeks.
You can check out more details
here.
Have you wondered if my work could help you?
I'm now offering complimentary Discovery Session consultations
of 20 minutes or so, for us to discuss what you're looking for
in a coach, and to see whether you and I feel like a fit to work
together formally. To schedule your Discovery Session, click
here.
Do you want your own copy of future newsletters?
If a friend forwarded this to you, or you're reading it from
Facebook or LinkedIn, this is a hit-or-miss method of receiving
it, and you might not see it next time. If you'd like to be on
my distribution list, you can join
here.
You can un-subscribe at any time.
Thank you!
Please send me your questions and comments
Let me know what you've wondered about concerning energy medicine
or vision or dreams. I'll be glad to write a short article addressing
that topic. Thank you to those who have sent me questions, or see
a question you asked me in a private session written about here.
You're helping many other people!
Enjoy the start of this jiggles-out-the-negativity month of July.
I'll write again in a few weeks. Take care!
