August 2024 Newsletter
Hello, and an amazing August to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter.
Today's issue is about beliefs, and how they may be holding us back.
Enjoy!
Beliefs can limit us
|
The man in the jar is clearly trapped -- we can see that and he knows it. Our beliefs can trap us too, in less obvious ways, since people often think
their beliefs are fact, "just the way it is", so don't ever question them. Beliefs can become self-fulfilling prophecies, which either limit or expand
our lives. Whether you believe "My family has the worst luck" or "Things always work out in my favor" can determine the path of your future.
|
Do you have beliefs about your eyesight which could be holding you back? When I was growing up wearing ever-thicker eyeglasses, my mother constantly worried
about "Nancy's bad eyes", so I believed I had a flawed defective visual system. Years later I learned how much strain and tension I was carrying around my eyes and in my head, and how
trying hard to see well was making my vision even worse. The new belief I started to develop was that my eyes are healthy, and know how to see clearly if I keep them relaxed.
|
My automatic approach to accomplishing most things used to be to push myself, and if it was a difficult task, I'd push myself even harder. I didn't realize at first
that my belief of "achieving a goal requires hard work and struggle" was leading me to strain and strive, and then to get upset. Other people improved their eyesight much faster
than it was taking me, and didn't seem to be working as hard as I was. What could they believe that I was overlooking?
|
All the vision improvement books and teachers emphasized relaxation as a key component of the process, yet I believed (as silly as this sounds now) that relaxation was
difficult. "I have to try to relax!" I kept reminding myself, and you can imagine how that went. It was only when I slowly shifted my focus from trying to allowing,
away from pushing to make my vision better toward receiving the images and scanning easily over the details, that I began to see some real progress.

Habits can be difficult to change if we've been doing something one way for a while. Just altering actions by brute force, without looking at feelings or beliefs which
may be driving those unwanted actions, won't usually get us very far. Start with your feelings: are you optimistic about moving past that former limit, breaking out of that
jar enclosing you, to use our earlier metaphor? Let your intention to grow and develop lead you forward, and your excitement about getting past those little speed bumps be your fuel.
|
Take a good look at your thoughts about advancing too. You've gotten this far in life, most likely moving past obstacles which may have seemed insurmountable at the time, and they're now
only a dim memory. When I was a child or teenager, you might as well have told me I'd be able to fly one day, as that I'd be able to function, let alone thrive, without glasses. Yet here
I am now, loving my life without that cage around my face, as my vision continues to improve. If a closer examination shows you're setting unnecessary limits on your own growth, you can change this.
Start with a small step in that new direction, then more steps as you're ready.

Let me know what you've wondered about concerning energy medicine
or vision or dreams. I'll be glad to write a short article addressing
that topic. Thank you to those who have sent me questions, or see
a question you asked me in a private session written about here.
You're helping many other people!
Enjoy the start of this abundant month of August.
I'll write again in a few weeks. Take care!
