Mid-September 2015 Newsletter
Hello, and a marvelous mid-September to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter.
The photo above shows me goofing around for the camera of a friend.
Have you let yourself be silly recenntly?
Today's issue has an article on letting yourself be
tempted to look.
Enjoy!
Vision: Being tempted to look
|
A famous quote by Oscar Wilde goes something like this:
"Some temptations are so great, the only thing to do is
yield to them". Those of us with a hard-working Puritan
heritage can get so caught up in what we should be
doing, we can often forget what we want to do! I'm
as guilty of this as anyone.
When I think about my vision practice, my mind goes
immediately to what I should be doing, how much eye
chart work, how frequently I should fit in a session
of palming or swinging. I can forget the simple
pleasure of looking at my environment with a curious
eye, scanning over the scene in front of me and letting
my eyes trace the details. Looking at clouds and imagining
pictures there can be vision practice too!

More and more lately, I'm letting myself look at the scenery around
me, at least briefly,
even when I'm supposed to be occupied with something else. I often
find when I give myself a brief break from "doing" to just appreciate
what's before my eyes, I return to my task with fresh energy
and enthusiasm. Sometimes I get a new idea which actually helps
my work. Why not treat yourself to a Looking Break soon?
