Mid-October 2026 Newsletter
Hello, and a mesmerizing Mid-October to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter.
Today's issue is about what you might be afraid of seeing. Enjoy!
What are you afraid of seeing?
|
When some energy healing friends who haven't dealt with eyesight problems specifically find that it's my focus, they often conclude the root problem is whatever the person doesn't want to see, or didn't want to see as a child when glasses were first prescribed.
Yes, this might have some truth to it, and it's also over-simplifying the situation. If we have a vision restriction, some part of our mind/body system is resisting fully letting in and understanding the images coming toward us.
|
This might sound obvious, that our vision is blurry because we're afraid of seeing something, either right now or because we're influenced by a negative memory from our past. However why are we resisting? We need to look a little deeper, since no one is the same. We all have different histories and our own "blind spots".
Were we punished harshly for "seeing too much" when we accidentally stumbled on some shameful family secret as a child? Did we participate in or observe a tragedy which was too much for our nervous system to handle, like the musician Ray Charles, whose baby brother drowned in the bathtub when Ray was caring for
him, leading Ray to blame himself and go blind a year later?
|
Another example: I've worked with a few folks who had sudden physical injuries near their eyes. One woman, while hiking, had a tree branch whip across the path to strike her in the side of the face, barely missing her eye. When she got glasses soon after, her visual system felt better protected and safer. I imagine she thought of glasses as her armor.
I've heard others joke (remember, many a truth is stated in jest!) that you're not supposed to hit someone with glasses on. It's clear the belief that eyeglasses offer protection is widespread, with many considering them like safety goggles. To me glasses have always felt like a cage I wanted to escape.

If you discover through some inner work that your vision restriction seems to have started back when you believed something limiting about yourself which is no longer true, you can start to challenge that belief. What if you are afraid to see that you've made some poor choices? People start new hobbies, careers, or relationships at all
ages. There's no shame in changing your mind when you discover more information -- that's how we learn and grow, and the human race evolves. If you wish you had pursued an artistic or theater career instead of the safe corporate office job your parents chose for you, can you still pursue those interests on the side, say by taking a class or participating in a community group?

Much of my younger life was filled with anxiety and striving. Although I was a top student and did enjoy most of my schoolwork, I was much more focused on pleasing the teachers in school and my parents at home, than on pleasing myself. Vision improvement has taught me that if I'm not happy and relaxed, neither is my visual system, and I
probably won't see that well. Relaxation is a central component of vision improvement, and of most other forms of healing too. It's much more difficult to be relaxed when you're afraid.

Don't let your perceived limitations keep you from trying new things. Have you ever told yourself "I've never been good at ....". You're not expected to be an expert at something you've never done before! And that's no reason to avoid dipping your toe in and trying the unfamiliar. When I started vision improvement, my acuity, depth perception, and peripheral awareness
were pretty poor, with my mother's lament about "Nancy's bad eyes" ringing in my ears. You've probably heard "sometimes the only way out is through". So I dove in to start learning, and practicing the simple relaxing routines. This is a focus for me now, every day. As I allow myself to receive the images and see more clearly, any remaining fear of seeing begins to soften and melt away.
