Maintenance, and repair

Back when I was running many miles every day, people often asked me "Why do you run so much? You're already skinny!". Well, first of all, I prefer "lean" over "skinny", and they were missing the point.
I didn't run to get (or stay) skinny, I ran because I enjoyed it, and my body wanted the movement and exercise, especially when I had a desk job and spent most of my work day indoors sitting.
Sometimes I replied "It's not repair, it's maintenance!", just to make them think.

Since a large part of my focus is on supporting and continuing to improve my eyesight, I spend time every day doing simple practices like
palming
to relax and calm my visual system. I view my eyes and visual brain not as a problem to fix, or something broken which needs repair. It's just another part of my system, a very special one, which requires care and
attention, by giving it proper nourishment, exercise, and rest.

Thankfully, I've never had a serious physical malady or disease which needed medical help to recover from, the exception being my highly nearsighted eyesight. When I was younger, I wanted to excel
at what I could already do well, or was interested in, like school work or athletics. I ignored or excessively strained my vision, not seeing it as anything but a problem, since it got worse and worse,
with my thick glasses growing stronger every year. I was way out of balance, I know now.

My attitude now about my eyesight is viewing it as a precious treasure, knowing it's my honor and responsibility to take care of it to the best of my ability. If I have to go out driving in the glaring sun as I did earlier today,
I do lots of slow blinking and relaxed breathing which will keep my eyes and the rest of me calm, then do some palming when I get back home, being sure to send gratitude to my well-functioning visual system.

You could consider resting my vision when it's been stressed as normal maintenance. I want to keep an optimal relaxation level in my visual system, just like I want proper air pressure in the tires on my car. Ideally, with this
type of sufficient care-taking, my eyes won't need any repair, beyond what regular nourishment, rest, and exercise will provide. I've never had any eye surgeries, and am doing my utmost to avoid such a fate. Even as the days are getting shorter
now here in NY state, which usually makes me worry about not being able to see, I can feel my vision slowly improving.

Do you assume your vision will continue to get worse? Or that even though others have improved their vision, it's not possible for you? I invite you to challenge that belief. You probably know the famous Henry Ford quote, "Whether you believe you can, or you believe you can't, you're right!".
A big part of vision improvement is mindset, since the eyes are a direct extension of the brain, after all. Believe you can see well, do what you can to support and encourage your visual system, and please, take time to enjoy the view.
