Hello, and a meteoric Mid-March to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter. Today's issue is about structure, and whether you feel you have the right amount. Enjoy!

Structure: do you have too much or too little?
 man trapped inside a jar Recently I've had several discussions with folks interested in improving their vision naturally, some already doing that, and each one frustrated by not having a workable structure for moving forward and making consistent progress. A couple were given routines to follow which were unworkable with their personal schedule. Others had no defined structure at all and were floundering with no direction, not knowing what they should do when.

Like the man trapped in the jar, too rigid of a routine, with no room to move or flexibility for personal choice, invites rebellion and resistance. Continuing to try to follow a program not suited for you can feel like slogging your way uphill in the mud, when determination can eventually turn to despair and giving up, even when you fully believe in the goal you're hoping to reach.

 alternate route sign You've heard "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, then expecting different results". If what you're doing isn't working, or feels awful, there's no shame in trying something different. If your rigid vision practice routine leads to feeling guilty when you don't do X minutes of palming Y times a day, try loosening the requirement to be perfect, and the associated pressure on yourself. Be grateful if you did any palming at all.

For those who have no defined structure for vision practice and want some, start small, and be gentle with yourself. You don't want to be a perfectionist here either, which will just set you up for failure when Life gets in the way of your plans, and it will. Pick a healthy vision habit which appeals to you, like taking more breaks to shift your focus between near and far, or making sure you're blinking every few seconds. Then tie this to something you're already doing, like making coffee or tea in the morning. You've now created an experimental structure for yourself, which you can modify going forward.

 Dalai Lama different approaches quote Like eyesight itself, vision improvement practices should be easy and ideally even fun. While waiting for the coffee pot or tea kettle, using that time to look out the window, then back to the kitchen, then out the window again or across the room, can help you notice more, pull you away from your worries about the day to come, and naturally lead you to appreciate how much your eyes can see.

Your eyes are unique to you, since you are a one-of-a-kind individual. Your vision improvement practices should be tailored to you and your particular lifestyle too. Yes, many of these techniques are done by others, but when, and for how long and how often, is different for everyone. If it doesn't fit you and feels like a struggle, you won't continue it or get much benefit from it. Heed the wisdom of the Dalai Lama, and try a different, maybe a more gentle inviting approach, to improving your vision. Seeing better makes all of Life richer.
