Mid-February 2024 Newsletter

Hello, and a more-than-enough Mid-February to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter. Today's issue is about resisting what you see, or accepting it. Enjoy!

Are you resisting, or accepting?
trying to move a resistant donkey Many people have told me their vision challenges started when there was something in their environment they didn't want to see. It might have been the illness of a caretaker when they were a child, or moving to a new town where they didn't know anyone. Or maybe as an adult there was a big shake-up at their job and they were let go, or a close friendship or romantic partnership ended. They were resistant to seeing and accepting this situation, just like the resistant donkey is unwilling to move.

In the image of the person trying to budge the immovable donkey, the human is stuck just like the animal is. Have you ever futilely pursued a goal, only making progress when you changed your approach? This reminds me of my own thinking that palming would magically correct my nearsightedness, when my mind wasn't relaxed at all, just impatiently waiting until the palming session was over so I could go accomplish something productive. I had completely missed the point of the gentle relaxing practice.

one figure pushing another Palming became much more effective for me once I relaxed into the practice, instead of trying to force something to happen. Pushing for an outcome works sometimes, and can often lead to problems, no progress, or even a setback. Clear relaxed vision comes from accepting the view in front of us, whatever it is, not resisting it and demanding Reality be different than it is. I realized I had been resisting relaxing, since that didn't feel safe.

Vision is not just a mechanical process, as if tightening a bolt or adjusting a screw on our visual system would "fix" our eyesight, which after all is not broken. As uncomfortable as it may be for some folks to admit, especially those who pride themselves on being logical, our feelings are important in the functioning of our vision. If we're not calm and centered, we often can't see as well. Or we'll start to get a headache, or some other physical symptom of stress. Our physiology and our emotions are closely connected.

welcoming light So how can we move our feelings, and therefore our bodies and our vision, more toward peace and acceptance, and away from resistance? The first key is to slow down and take a breath, avoiding the impulse to react immediately. That person who hurt us may be feeling his own pain, and acting unthinkingly. Do we just want to throw more fuel on the fire and make the situation even worse by reacting angrily ourselves? One of my teachers is fond of saying "It's best not to take things personally, even if it has your name on it!". What others say usually displays more about them than about us.

The Alcoholics Anonymous prayer asks for the serenity to accept what can't be changed, to change what we can, and to be wise enough to know the difference. As someone who walks outside a few times a day, the weather is a great example of what I can't change, so why get upset about it? The bright sun helps me see more clearly, the rain or snow moistens my eyes and makes my hair curlier, the fog or dimmer light exercises my rod photoreceptors and my peripheral vision. Every experience, indoors or out, is a chance to practice seeing details, color and depth and contour and shadow, and to accept and appreciate it all.

Upcoming EFT series with a master teacher!
My skilled insightful EFT teacher Dr. Carol Look will be offering a new 3-week 6-session series starting in May, Unlock Your Abundance. I can't recommend Carol's work highly enough. Note that your own abundance challenge may be financial, or with health, relationships, or in some other area. We'll have 3 activation sessions to get ready, in February, March, and April, all of which will be available afterward when you register. You can check out the details here.

Have you wondered if my work could help you?
I'm now offering complimentary Discovery Session consultations of 20 minutes or so, for us to discuss what you're looking for in a coach, and to see whether you and I feel like a fit to work together formally. To schedule your Discovery Session, click here.

Do you want your own copy of future newsletters?
If a friend forwarded this to you, or you're reading it from Facebook or LinkedIn, this is a hit-or-miss method of receiving it, and you might not see it next time. If you'd like to be on my distribution list, you can join here. You can un-subscribe at any time. Thank you!

Please send me your questions and comments
Let me know what you've wondered about concerning energy medicine or vision or dreams. I'll be glad to write a short article addressing that topic. Thank you to those who have sent me questions, or see a question you asked me in a private session written about here. You're helping many other people! Enjoy the second half of this flowing month of February. I'll write again in a few weeks. Take care!
