July 2025 Newsletter
Hello, and a jubilant July to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter.
Today's issue is about different ways of looking and seeing.
Enjoy!
How are you looking?
|
An early major insight about vision improvement for me, after reluctantly facing the severity of the deep strain and contraction held in my visual system, was that I needed to change the way
I used my eyes. To do this, first my attitude about seeing had to change. I wanted to move from looking with effort to looking with ease and enjoyment. If I believed using my eyes was a struggle,
hard work like endlessly pushing a boulder up a steep hill, it's no surprise I didn't truly enjoy looking.
|
A wise teacher said "How we do one thing is how we do everything". A man with a chip on his shoulder, angry at the world, will be short-tempered even with friendly calm people.
One of my unhelpful personal behaviors has been the strong tendency to rush, as if there's never enough time to do what seems important. This led me to develop what I named the "glance and grab" vision
technique. I'd take a quick visual snapshot of the view in front of me, then examine that in my mind, rather than continue to look at the physical details with my open eyes. If something changed in the scene, I could totally miss it,
since I wasn't looking!
|
When I mentally scan the view inside my head, I'm not connected to the environment, not truly here in the present. What's captured is in the past, just like a photograph, even though that past may only be
a few seconds ago. It's not the ever-changing dynamic now. True vision can only happen in the now. With my glance and grab process, I was remembering (often based on partial data) the past, which may not
accurately match the current reality, especially when that's rapidly changing.

As we plan to write an article, a rough outline of what we want to say might be our first step. In drawing or painting, though this is not my skill, it seems sensible to sketch the borders of important portions of our creation first. Then we can
proceed to fill in the details of the written or artistic piece, to make the work richer and convey our message more fully. Our vision follows a similar pattern. A quick glimpse will give some basic
information. Taking the time to examine the view for longer, scanning over the details easily, allows more to appear.
|
At first I thought my hurrying habit was the central reason underlying my non-looking. When I tried to do things more slowly, including the way I used my eyes, it was frustrating and felt unnatural, since it was so different for me. The rushing was merely one symptom
of my lack of deep attention, my inability to be fully present with what was happening, or with what I was doing and seeing. A big part of me was poised to flee at any moment, to a place of safety with no visual demands. That old cliche applies here: they call it the
present because it's a gift.
|
Remaining fully present in the moment, whatever is occurring, has been vastly more important in my life and for my vision improvement than training myself not to rush. When I'm rushing, I'm paying more attention to the immediate goal I'm trying to
reach (which is in the future) than I am to what's going on and what I'm feeling right now. Our senses connect us to the here and now, so see if you can be a bit more aware of what you see and hear and feel around you. If you're only tuned into a
screen in front of your eyes, you may be missing the richest part of your environment. Let your gaze travel across the room, or out the window. Don't ignore the rich gift of your present.

Please send me your questions and comments
Let me know what you've wondered about concerning energy medicine
or vision or dreams. I'll be glad to write a short article addressing
that topic. Thank you to those who have sent me questions, or see
a question you asked me in a private session written about here.
You're helping many other people!
Enjoy the start of this jostles-out-the-negativity month of July.
I'll write again in a few weeks. Take care!
