August 2025 Newsletter

Hello, and an abundant August to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter. Today's issue is about how a physical problem may have associated emotional components. Enjoy!

How do you feel about it?
hurrying My energy healing and intuitive training, and some recent vision teachers too, have proposed the idea that most physical maladies also have an underlying emotional or feeling-related portion. Even the car accident that led to your chronic back pain, or that broken leg from falling out of a tree when you were young which never healed properly, might still be bothering you now for a partly emotional reason.

Yes, we might understandably still be angry, or sad, about something that happened to us years ago, especially if we felt like we had no control. Yet holding onto that grudge could be keeping the pain from healing, or that restriction in our body or attitude from loosening. A small personal example: recently when chopping up vegetables at the kitchen counter, the scab from cutting my finger the last time I did this, when I was rushing, was right in the path of the knife. This felt like a screaming alarm to me to slow down, before I cut myself again.

what? me worry? Rushing, and worrying, have been the main unhelpful patterns in my life. Both have contributed to physical problems, from cut fingers to eyesight restriction. What these two bad habits have in common is that they're both avoiding what's right in front of us, namely the present. Worrying is fretting about what happened in the past, or what we fear will happen in the future. The author Mark Twain said in his lifetime he'd worried about many things, most of which never happened. Those of us prone to worry are in good company!

The emotions underlying rushing for me have usually been feeling nervous and pressured, either pushed by authority figures or by myself. This became a self-perpetuating cycle when I started over-filling my to-do list, then had to scramble to get everything done. I had taken on the pattern from my childhood as the oldest girl in a busy household, where there was always more to do, and brought it forward into my present. When I started vision improvement, many times I found myself rushing through the practices, only wanting to cross them off the list so I could go do something else, rather than let myself be fully immersed in the experience.

yoda Most vision improvement practices are centered around relaxation, of the body, mind, and visual system. When we're rushing, or worried, we aren't relaxed. Eyesight works best when we're calm and centered, not frantic and distracted. When I started to observe my own habits years ago, one of the insights which helped me change that unhelpful hurrying habit was the realization that rushing could actually cost me time-wise. Either I'd make mistakes and need to redo something when writing, or I'd drop or spill something when cooking, or I'd hurt myself like the cut finger mentioned earlier. And the mental energy expended to keep pushing myself often meant I needed recovery time to regain my stability.

This summer season has the most daylight, with kids out of school and many families on vacation, the time for backyard barbecues and splashing around in the pool. Vacation or a holiday is not the time to rush and worry! It's also an ideal time to practice good vision habits, being outdoors and looking around at the natural scenery, or up at the clouds or tall trees, rather than at a screen. Your eyes move more when you're outside, with the sunlight and rich colors and details of plant life to nourish your visual system with every glance. The abundant beauty of Nature regularly fills me with gratitude for the treasure my eyes deliver to me. Have you had your dose of vitamin N (for Nature) today?
